AJE, Research Square Company founder Shashi Mudunuri to Speak at the Wiley Executive Seminar in Washington, DC

AJE  Research Square founder, Shashi Mudunuri will be delivering a talk at the 2018 Wiley Executive Seminar in Washington, DC on June 22. The event will be held at the Knight Conference Center in the Newseum and will be for learned societies and association staff. This year’s theme is entitled “What if? Imagining the Future of Research Communications” and invites speakers to share what they envision aspects of research to look like in the future.

“Our goal at the Wiley Society Executive Seminar is to bring together society leaders, from many different disciplines, to talk about the important issues facing scholarly and scientific publishing,” said Anna Ehler, Senior Marketing Manager at Wiley. “We’re always looking for speakers who will be both thought-provoking and inspiring, so we’re really delighted that Shashi will be joining us this year to talk about how technologies like AI and blockchain will change the way we publish research.”

Mudunuri will be discussing the topic, “Exploring the Implications of AI, Blockchain, VR, and Other Emerging Technologies on Scholarly Publishing.” In his talk, he will focus on how he views openness and automation affecting research, and he will cover technology that he believes will impact scholarly publishing. His company, Research Square, serves the publishing industry with technologies developed through its Research and Development division with the mission of making research communication faster, fairer, and more useful. His company, AJE, serves researchers across the globe through author services.

“At Research Square, we are very interested in the intersection of machine learning technology, automation, and traditional human brainpower,” noted Ben Mudrak, Strategic Partnerships Director. “In any discussion of the future of scholarly publishing, it’s important to consider the role of machines, and we hope this talk will stimulate discussion about how technology can revolutionize the sharing of research.”

The seminar will host other speakers from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the U.S. State Department, Olin College of Engineering, North Carolina State University, Wiley, and Georgetown University. Other topics that will be covered include private funding, crowdsourcing research, and bias in scholarly publishing.
