Dr. Daltabuit develops the content of workshop presentations on scholarly publishing, and offers them through an international network of researchers as part of AJE's author education programs. Originally from Mexico City, she studied at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) leading to a DVM with a focus on small-ruminant lentiviruses. She earned her PhD in animal virology at the Instituto Vasco de Desarrollo Agrario NEIKER/ Universidad de Zaragoza - Spain. She joined AJE after completing her postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutesof Health (NIH) where she researched retroviral-induced diseases, specifically SIV and HIV.
Dr. Klenk earned his PhD and BSE in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University, and his MBA with a concentration in Energy and the Environment from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Before joining AJE, Dr. Klenk taught an Engineering Problem Solving course for the Duke TIP in India Program in Ahmedabad, India.
Mr. Mudunuri brings 10 years of business management, entrepreneurship, and software experience to American Journal Experts as its CEO. Prior to his current role, Shashi spent three years helping to grow the Federal division of MarkLogic Corporation from a $1 million to an $18 million annual business. Shashi has also worked for consulting and finance firms, and studied computer science, philosophy, and business at Duke University.
Dr. Corlew oversees AJE’s Manuscript Services division, which includes editing, formatting and translation services. He is responsible for our ongoing commitment to delivering a high quality and efficient service for each client. He has a PhD in English and Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor's degree in Neurobiology from the University of Washington. His dissertation explored the parallel modernization of space in poetry and neuroscience.
Ms. Parr oversees the Human Resources function at AJE. She earned a bachelor's in Business Administration from the University of Georgia with a major in Marketing. She completed an MMC from the University of Georgia with a concentration in Advertising. Ms. Parr also studied towards an MA in Experimental Psychology at Hollins University, and is a Certified Human Patterns Administrator. She has over ten years of human resource and talent management experience, supporting both technical and service-oriented businesses from the corporate side and as a consultant.
Dr. Rawls coordinates recruiting and personnel development activities across AJE. She received her PhD in Molecular Genetics from Washington University in St. Louis and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Hematology. Before joining AJE, Dr. Rawls completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Hematology and Oncology and also worked as a freelance scientific writer and editor.
Ms. Evans manages the Customer Support team, which includes regional specialists who speak Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese, in order to facilitate communication between customers and staff and ensure that each client receives timely assistance. She has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before joining AJE, she has worked as a grant writer and an information and communications specialist in the healthcare industry.
Ms. Hannon earned her BA in Journalism with a concentration in Advertising from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before joining AJE, Ms. Hannon worked in a variety of industries, including finance and architecture/engineering/construction, and as a marketing research consultant to Fortune 500 organizations in the technology and consumer products categories.
Ms. Cupelli is responsible for all accounting and finance activities for AJE. She received her bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and her MBA with a concentration in Accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology. Ms. Cupelli has over 10 years of comprehensive accounting and finance experience, with a specialty in technology-driven companies. She has worked in diverse industries including telecommunications and biotechnology.
Dr. Mudrak earned her PhD in Genetics and Genomics from Duke University and her BS in Biology from Emory University. Before joining AJE, Dr. Mudrak studied DNA mutagenesis in yeast and worked as a contract editor for AJE.
Dr. McMullen earned her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her BS in Biology from Susquehanna University. Before joining AJE as a Managing Editor in 2011, Dr. McMullen was a Senior Contract Editor for AJE, specializing in Neuroscience and Pharmacology edits.
Dr. Plank is responsible for the new Figure Services department, providing figure reformatting and design as well as developing guidelines and standards for contractors. He received his PhD in Biochemistry from Duke University, where he studied Double Holliday Junction metabolism by Drosophila Topoisomerase IIIŒ± and Bloom's Helicase. In addition to his role on the AJE team, Dr. Plank is a Postdoctoral Fellow studying DNA repair at the University of California at Davis.
Dr. Duma earned a B.S. in Pharmacy ('99), a M.Sc. and a PhD in Pharmacology ('01 and ‘05) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. She moved to the US in 2006 to study glucocorticoids and inflammation as part of a postdoctoral training program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).
Ms. Paola C. Guerrero Barba reviews and approves Spanish to English translations. Additionally, she is responsible for Translator Recruitment and training, which includes developing translation guidelines and training materials, as well as providing support to translators. Ms. Guerrero Barba has a degree in Psychology from Duke University.
Dr. Santos has a B.S. in Biology from the University of Porto, Portugal. After her graduation, Dr. Santos moved to The Netherlands and earned her PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of Groningen.
Dr. Chen obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Emory University and completed postdoctoral research in the University of Pittsburgh. His graduate research focused on developing novel synthetic methodologies and their application to nanostructured material and diversity oriented synthesis. Dr. Chen also has a MS in Polymer Chemistry and a BS in Chemistry from Peking University. As a medicinal chemist at Scynexis, Dr. Chen designed and developed the first orally-active clinical candidate for the treatment of late stage African Sleeping Sickness.
Dr. Rolon reviews and approves Spanish translations. He earned his PhD in Physics from Ohio University, with a dissertation focused on theoretical and numerical simulations of the optical response of semiconductor quantum dots. He also earned a MS in Physics from the University of Notre Dame and a BS in Applied Mathematics from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Mexico.
Dr. Bragagnolo earned her PhD in Philosophy from Stony Brook University and her BA in Philosophy from Hunter College. Before joining AJE, Dr. Bragagnolo taught a wide variety of undergraduate courses in Philosophy at Stony Brook and Elon University. She spent the 2008-2009 academic year in Cologne, Germany, doing research for her dissertation.
Dr. Pantoja completed her PhD in Neurobiology at Duke University, and also has an MS in Physiology/Neurobiology and a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She also worked as a speech pathologist in Brazil prior to coming to the US for her graduate studies.
Mrs. Aiex reviews and approves Portuguese to English translations. She earned a B.S. in Animal Science and a Master of Veterinary Studies from Massey University with a focus on equine reproductive physiology from Massey University in New Zealand. Before joining AJE, she held a position as a Lecturer in Biology at Washington College.
Dr. Taylor manages the ongoing operations activities related to Editing and Formatting. In this role, her primary duty is to maintain AJE's high editing standards by overseeing teams of managing editors. Dr. Taylor earned her PhD in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied blood vessel formation during mammalian development and tumorigenesis. During her time in graduate school, she worked as a contract editor for AJE.
Mr. Spurlock oversees the quality of work produced by AJE's editing division and develops AJE's editing standards. He has an MA in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor's degree in Physics. As a graduate student, he taught numerous writing classes, including classes on writing in the natural sciences.
As a team leader, Ms. Cantor manages a small group of Managing Editors who sustain the high quality of our editing service. After graduating from Boston University with a bachelor's degree in English, Ms. Cantor received her Master's degree in Expressive Arts Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. Her professional work has focused on expressive arts therapy with children and adults in hospice care.
Dr. Jernigan leads a team of managing editors who are dedicated to providing high quality editing services. He received a PhD in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he taught literature and composition from 2003 to 2009. His dissertation focused on the evolution of the novel form at the turn of the twentieth century. While completing his doctoral work, he worked as a contract editor for AJE.
Dr. Bendiksby earned his PhD in Neuroscience from Duke University, his Cand. Scient in Neuroscience from Oslo University, and his BSc in Pharmacology from Glasgow University. Before joining AJE, Dr. Bendiksby worked with a behavioral Neuroscience/Psychology group at Duke University whose focus is the neurological processing of socially relevant stimuli. His primary focus was using macaque and human subjects to elucidate the processing in area LIP of reward and attention associated with visual stimuli.
Dr. Troester supervises a team of managing editors who approve manuscripts edited by our editing contractors. She has a PhD in Biochemistry from Duke University and a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Bradley University. Dr. MacKellar was a contract editor for AJE before joining the team full-time as a Managing Editor and team leader.
